Concord & Carlisle, MA:
Located less than 20 miles Northwest of Boston center, the towns of Concord and Carlisle, share a deep historical and community connection. Until 1780 they were the same town. But Carlisle residents were looking for a “more convenient place to worship” and requested to be “set-off” from Concord. Since then, both towns have evolved into modern, progressive communities; however, they still retain a rural, small-town atmosphere. Concord, home of nearly 16,000 people, has carefully preserved the historic and literary aspects of the past. The North Bridge, where shots were fired in the first battle of the American Revolution, is lovingly preserved. Homes of literary greats Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and the Alcott Family are also well maintained. Justly proud of their cultural heritage, residents foster the arts and enjoy a local chorus, orchestra, band, theatre group and two art centers. Concord and Carlisle share community organizations, the lovely nature trails of Estabrook Woods and the Concord-Carlisle public high school, recognized as one of six outstanding high schools in the state. More than 3,200 students are served by Concord Public Schools. Steady suburban growth has increased since World War II as young professionals move away from Boston attracted by the rural charm of a historic New England Village.
